night, returned to a cleaned apartment exhausted---why? Two tutoring sessions, first with the redoubtable Genesis, who only wants to do what she wants, and second with her classmate Andrea, who desperately needs help in her skills and comprehension. Worked very hard with both, trying desperately to keep Genesis to task---not let her just do what she wanted. Both worked on same math, getting real insights as to what the fifth grade test demands, how it is structured, how some of it is created to "fool" test takers who look for easy answers (not exactly fair). The multiple choice structure encourages some of the students to just try to get the right choice, rather than consider how to solve the problem. Large gap between the two students, first went to Chipped Cup and found it incredibly crowded, so did not stay long, it was freezing, so had to return to library with an hour left before next lesson. Found two New Yorkers, actually had time tor read carefully two articles about wealth gap, as well as a few reviews. Then Andrea's lesson, which took a lot out of me. Thought about attending a movie but found that on returning home was very tired. I must have fallen asleep about 8, woke up around 1, amazed at how fitfully I had slept---a really deep, dreamless sleep for me, too late to go out, did not want a beer, needed a fruit drink but decided to wait for the morning. Slept two more shifts until about 7 after that. Woke up, here I am. Still stunned by the depth of my first sleep portion last night, a little tired this morning, despite all the time in bed.
Today the plan is at some point to head to City Center to buy a ticket to the Encores presentation of Paint Your Wagon; have other options but figure I might as well do it today---since tomorrow I am at Bushwick and looks like a heavy schedule for Saturday---I could be too tired or just want to plot into a movie. Saw the original production (with some replacements) on Memorial Day of 1951--still remember some of it. Lots of dancing, lots of men showing their hunger for the women who finally arrive at the town. Heard the record a lot growing up.
Also will try to catch a game or two of the NCAA playoffs, first game at 12;15, looks moderately
competitive. Have said enough for now, will check in tomorrow....
