library, had a severe hunger pang, headed up Vanderbilt, to either Sports Bar or Soda Bar. Chose the first, fairly empty, bartender formal, but nice, had a Caesar Salad, and a sprite, watched end of Thunder-Bulls game, fun, no conversation, left after finishing, got the check right after she took the salad away, does that mean she wanted me gone,,bar was not in any way filled, nevertheless the service was decent, the place good to know about.
But how to get to Bushwick? Solved it, walked down Vanderuilt to Fulton, then, even though it was cold, forsook the C and got the 26, to Bushwick via Halsey. Interesting trip, Halsey in Bed-Stuy is consistently attractive, finally arrived at Broadway, and then to Wycoff and Myrtle. Halsey is far from the western edge of Bushwick, has not been gentrified that much, Wycoff before Myrtle, still rather raw. Took L two stops to Jefferson and Cobra, first time back there in a while, Andrew, who is a friend was working the bar, had a coffee and read, no TV there, it is not football season, but again not much conversation. Thought i would head to South Fourth, really wanted to go, but when L got stuck on Montrose, got off, walked in the cold, and ended up at Basik, a bar which I had tried out last March. Russell, the bartender, very welcoming, I had met him last time, made me feel at home, had my beer, watched the selection for the NCAA tournement, again no conversation, by this time feared that walk to South Fourth from subway would freeze me, possible movie at 12th and second, but after missing first showing, felt tired and was home by 8. Good or bad idea..? Not sure, needed the rest, but awoke in middle of the night and all through it---not having to worry about Friends is actually creating a sense of restlessness in me which makes it difficult to get through the night.
Morning came, brought in my laundry, had my hair cut (very quickly) and am now here, one, maybe two sessions today.
Tonight, hope to go to Reading at Bushwick Starr, see many people there that i know, also may stop off at Sweetwater, to say hi to Shayla and Helen and compare some notes with them> Don't know, however, if I will be able to get both in. We will see....
