west 53rd street, just east of 6th avenue--the whole street closed down, so that a large building directly east of sixth avenue can be built. Disgusting! What a statement about the current city administration's feelings about luxury building. Then to pass the former Donnell library, and see the building that has replaced it---a tribute to luxury! This is the horror of NYC in 2017---"real New Yorkers", (if there is such a thing) have to overlook it to find things in the city to praise. It just leaves you with a feeling of being overpowered----and then as I approach the library I say to myself "yes, but it is a great walking city", trying to salvage some sense of why it it good to be living here. Anyway, that is all for now on that.
Last night was tired, and so stayed in---no adventure---today (despite what I have just written) is a beautiful day in the city--will try to take advantage of it---also first day of baseball season, Yankee game should be starting as write this---something to take my mind of other things.
So we live in this world of "good and bad". Good company, meaningful walks, friends who are nice and considerate and easy to talk to---and then the rest: see above.
Hope to arrive in Williamsburg at some point, and "hang" there--also possibly complete the history o of Henry VIII and his children that I am reading. Now on Elizabeth and her takeover of power. Very interesting.
Will report more tomorrow or next post. Keep it real...
