cityboy is...

proud that his budget, at this point, seems pretty balanced. Still, before going to the play at Dixon Place, not sure of what to do, or what to see. Much colder than I thought, my fingers are still freezing---supposed to rise to about a little above freeezing, but that is hardly happening now. Had hoped to go to Cobra to
"hang" with Claire and/or Austen, but really not sure at this point.Plays seem a bit expensive (even the ones that I am going to pay money to see anyway) so it looks like a movie, but have to get myself motivated for that. Why is that so hard...?
Yesterday, hung out at home, then left to go to Friends basketball game with some trepidation, but was warmly welcomed by all. Had a good conversation with Larry, the grandfather of one of the players on the Friends team, whom I had actually met before at the Heights Cafe (remember that place, where you used to hang out) and had a nice talk with (then). He was in publishing, so we talked a bit about Roth and Salter and other novelists.  I recommended that he read Salter's latest novel as well as The Good Lord Bird by James McBride. Hope he does that. Interesting, he told me that now (he is in his eighties) he is doing psychotherapy
and has a practice in Brooklyn. A lot of effort must have gone into that change, he deserves a lot of credit, funny how some people in their seventies simply resign themselves to a repetitive existence, while others, like Larry channel their energy into something meaningful and new.
After the game, toyed with the idea of going to Jack to see Adrienne kennedy's play, but it was too cold, I was too hungry, so decided to go to Standings, where I could watch the first half of the Nets game carefully, and have some of their delicious free pizza. Like the place, although I realize that usually I am by myself when I watch the games there. Still, bartender Aaron is accepting, and there are good things to do there, if I really want to immerse myself in sports.
So, once again, on to the next moment in my life.....
