so cityboy...

took the journey to Lefferts to Matt's party---neither time did he make use of a cab or car service. But that is much of the fascination of the journey, traveling through areas one has not been before, trying to come to temrs with the vision it presents of the past and the present. Ah Brooklyn! From Kingston Avenue, about seven blocks to Matt's apartment, mostly blocks empty or with movement from a few orthodox Jews, and a few blacks. Some of the cross streets in the area, which I could only get glimpses of as I passed, are really beautiful, kind of islands in themselves. Final two blocks before Lefferts are old apartment houses, seems like mostly black and hispanic people are living there---nothing dangerous, streets were still empty, but different nevertheless. Walked back down Kingston at around 10:45, just missed the bus, but no problems. Would like to visit again in the daytime, whole parts of this Eastern section of Flatbush that are unknown to me. Not sure about next trip.
Third day of no work from Friends, return tomorrow, then four at least four days next week, not to worry, still it is a little waring on me---have one tutoring project today, in gentrified Harlem (I think). Tutored in Harlem yesterdaty, amazed as I walked down Lenox between 132nd and 125th, all the upscale restaurants that have evolved there. Still quite a difference between rich and poor. See what happens....
